Seems each weekend brings with it something exciting. Last weekend it was snow. This weekend we had the following bit of fun less than one mile from us. 75th and Lower Buckeye is our closest major crossroads. We live two streets down at 75th and Wood. Nothing like having news choppers hovering over your house for 5 hours.

At about 1 p.m., Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a car accident near 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. Eyewitnesses said the parties involved in the accident had confronted each other, with one individual brandishing a gun, said Paul Chagolla, a spokesman with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers tracked one of the men reportedly involved in the accident back to his house in a nearby neighborhood, across the street from Santa Maria Middle School. The man’s relatives identified him as a 25-year-old named T.J. Gunfire was exchanged while officers searched the house, Chagolla said.
Chagolla would not confirm whether the suspect, who remained barricaded in his home for several hours after the confrontation, had been shot. Family members communicating with T.J. by cell phone after the shoot-out said he told them he had suffered gunshot wounds.
Police sent out a notice shortly after 6 p.m. confirming that the suspect was dead, but would not say how he died.
“There’s no more barricade, lets put it that way,” said Sgt. Lauri Williams, a Phoenix police spokeswoman. “The house is secure.”
People believed to be T.J.’s family members howled with grief as armored cars pulled away from the neighborhood.
